The Gallery
KW Light Gallery opened in 2002 in Key West as a new venue to exhibit
contemporary photography, reproductions of Key West and the Florida
Keys, and selected works that exemplify the concept of LIGHT and
its varied interpretations. The gallery owner is Sharon Wells, a
photographer and painter, as well as an historian and publisher,
whose works are on continual display. Exhibitions of the works of
other photographers and painters are mounted during the winter and
spring seasons.
Historic Images
One of KW Light Gallery´s aim is to serve as a center for
historic images of Key West, the Florida Keys, Cuba and people of
note, such as Ernest Hemingway. Historically, Key West is a city
of culture and art, where galleries have existed since the days
of Roosevelt´s Works Progress Administration in the 1930´s.
The island city has been well documented.
Staff
As a professional historian and archivist since 1975, Sharon Wells
has conducted extensive research in the historic and photographic
archives of Key West, South Florida, National Archives in Washington,
D.C. and Atlanta, as well as the Library of Congress and various
Presidential archives. Her familiarity with these sources will assist
anyone searching for historic images for personal or commercial
use.
The gallery provides archival reproductions on archival papers,
or canvas, in sizes ranging from 8 x 10 inches to 4 x 6 feet.
These photographic works are available in black & white or sepia.
Website
The website, www.kwlightgallery.com,
maintains images of the current works on display in the gallery,
and a continually expanding gallery of available historic images.
Also, the works of invited artists are available for viewing on-line
under the Guests Galleries.
